I still think Mitt will win the race to the bottom, but
Rick's recent over-the-top rhetoric is worth considering in light of something
Alexander Hamilton wrote way back when:
...a dangerous ambition more often lurks behind the specious mask of zeal for the rights of the people than under the forbidden appearance of zeal for the firmness and efficiency of government. History will teach us that the former has been found a much more certain road to the introduction of despotism than the latter, and that of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants.
And in case anyone's wondering, no, I didn't have this little pearl of wisdom socked away for the right moment. It's just that, since I'm about to turn 47--and have a degree in political science--I figured I'd put
The Federalist Papers on my bucket list, because, well, why not? Anyway, that's from the very first, so easy enough, though I did manage to knock out the first 10 today, and, time permitting, hopefully will get around to the remaining 75 before too long.
