OK, The Horse is Gone...Time to Close the Barn Door
From Album3

Moe Graham, Larry Lieberman, and Curley McCain...United States Senators.

Anyway...here's to 2010...as for 2009, well...if nothing else, it was the year George W. Bush ceased to be president. And that's a good thing.

John Bolton: The Human Equivalent of Collateral Damage
From Album3

At a certain point, it becomes a question of character. Jon Stewart was right to ask John Bolton if there was a country somewhere that he didn't want to bomb.

OK, since I'm just a low end blogger who doesn't have to triangulate, I can flat out state that Bolton's call for perpetual war has NO basis in anything other than a severe psychological defect...a defect that manifests itself in wanting to watch others suffer. He's truly a demented creep.

Friday Cat Blogging With Photoshop
From Album3

...in Oslo. Just my .00000002 cents worth re: the prize, the speech. I won't defend either war; that said, I appreciated Obama's assumption that we were/are mature enough to listen to a reasoned argument. I knew there were issues where he'd disappoint progressives -- Obama's a centrist Democrat -- but, and maybe it's just my advancing age and increasing cynicism, plus the last eight years (and more), but I won't toss this administration out on its ear, particularly given that the "opposition" is nuttier than a truckload of fruitcakes. But, then again, my vote in 2008 was lesser of evils...as usual.

Have a good weekend.

Considering the Alternative
From Album3

OK, I'm skeptical that escalating the war in Afghanistan will amount to much good; that said, President Obama made his case in as thoughtful and mature manner as possible...and does anyone want to imagine what the situation would be like in a bizarro-world McCain/Palin administration?

One thing, though--I sure as hell hope the private conversations aren't at all like the ones that preceded the Johnson administration's decision to escalate Vietnam (thanks to Library Chronicles for the link.)

Getting to the Heart of the Matter
From Album3

John Cole at Balloon Juice nails it:

The funny thing about all of this is that no matter how bad all their ideas are, no matter how disastrous their governance has been, no matter how many horrible things they have done to the economy and this country, what really is killing the Republican party is that deep down, they are just complete assholes. You see it in the way they treat women, you see it in the way they treat minorities, you see it in the way they treat homosexuals, you see it in the way they treat anyone who is not a white Christian, and you see it in the way they treat anyone who disagrees with them slightly about anything. They just have no respect for anyone, and it shows. People don’t like to be treated like crap, and grown-ups don’t want to be associated with people who yell "You lie" or scream "socialism" or "Hitler" or accuse you of being a terrorist whenever they don’t get their way.

Just Who Are You Calling "Pig," DICK?
From Album3

You know, speaking as someone who's always had to rely on a "warm personality and good sense of humor," I'd suggest that Dick Armey be careful as to who he's calling a pig...and that's not even considering just how dead wrong he is when it comes to the lengths insurance companies will go to in order to deny care.

Pledge of Allegiance FAIL
From Album3

Funny, but the other day I mentioned to a friend that the very people obsessed with "under God" in the Pledge tend to forget that the next word is "indivisible."

Hope they don't forget liberty AND justice for all. They aren't just words, either.

Words of Wisdumb
From Album3

Something to remember: the geniuses loudly declaiming that two Democratic losses in statewide elections (ahem, and two wins in special elections, including a big ol' EFF U to undiluted full lizard brain wingnuttery in New York) are a rebuke to the Obama administration are the same folks who couldn't wait to declare John McCain the "winner" of all three presidential "debates" last year.

I think The Daily Show got it spot on last night, while the usual pundits are batting 1.000...well, actually opposite 1.000.

Um, WHY Are We Listening To These Clowns?
From Album3

An administration that apparently thinks they deserve a mulligan for 9/11 AND the anthrax attacks, that ignores major acts of terrorism against two allies, other terrorist actions around the world, including in the very countries they went to war in...and which, after years of conflict, they dumped as unfinished on their successor...claims to possess ANY relevance? Talk about the soft bigotry of low expectations.
