Still vaguely there, but fainter, off in the distance -- maybe like a star that's died but is so far away we haven't yet seen it go out yet --
David Brooks issues yet another plea for a GOP candidate that's not a total embarrassment, without realizing that
total embarrassment is now the core and essence of the GOP. Ha -- he could have called it "Where Have You Gone, Jeb (Jeb!) DiMaggio, The Allegedly Sane Wing of the Repugs Turn Their Lonely Eyes To You" (emphasis on "allegedly")...but this really is a case of reaping what's been sowed. For a generation now, the allegedly sane wing of the GOP has relied on the crazy base, assuming they could be brought along with simple slogans and a fair helping of hatred for all things "librul"...but the crazy base has decided to throw Brooks et al in the same boiling pot. And why not? The allegedly sane Repugs were never about "limited government." That's rhetorical bullshit. It's always been an authoritarian racket, with government contract goodies for the well connected, and some stomp-on-the-libruls rhetoric to placate the base. Which turns out to be...toxic. Toxic for the Repugs...and who knows what sort of toxic disaster it would be if, god forbid, they actually took over the Executive Branch...
