Wingers Complain About Media's 'Tough Love' Attitude Towards Obama

Because 'tough love' is still 'love,' right?
Oh Yeah--the Resemblance is Startling, Ain't It

The Dark Knight...and the Dim Bulb.
Don't Go There--It's a Dead Zone

And not even Verizon's network can fix it.

Not cool.
Not Exactly Chocolate and Peanut Butter

Fortunately or not, I've been receiving the various "MUST/PLEASE READ-Obama hates him some flag lapel pins AND the Pledge"--and now the troops--emails that waft around the slow lane of the internets like particularly noxious fumes from a sewage treatment plant on days when the wind blows from a certain direction.

Well, it's good to see that the military itself is saying "enough." Still, as malodorous as they are, part of me is curious as to their effectiveness.

Paraphrasing comments I made over at Timshel's, anyone stopping by this humble blog is presumably familiar, if not fully fluent, with the internets. But there's certainly a demographic out there whose mode of transport along the information superhighway is, at best, golf cart, if not adult tricycle. My guess is that some Karl Rove wanna be has taken Herr Rove's mix and match of direct mail and sleaze tactics to the intertubes, generating various electronic chain letters, passed along by anyone they manage to hook, from loyal acolytes to dimwitted loons.

And...my guess is that this will soon be an established and accepted element of a political campaign, whether it works or not this cycle.

By the way, I'd be lying if I didn't admit to a fair bit of schadenfreude watching the wingnuts bang their collective heads against the wall, wondering why their spitballs of hatred just don't seem to be leaving any mark this time around...yet. The season's still early, and I expect the media will attempt to manufacture something, if only to tighten the race (which, not coincidentally, would fatten their wallet). We'll see.

In the meantime, I fully expect more of these emails, ever more shrill in tone. In some ways, it will be like watching an addict during withdrawal...unless one of their electronic poison pens manages to hit a vein...whereupon we'll be treated to a sheer spasm of delusional wickedness the likes of which we've never seen.

This is What Being Leader of the Free World Looks Like

And this is George W. Bush:

Any questions?

Update: For a more nuanced opinion, I highly recommend this.

Post-Haste...Not

Sorry for the post deficit today...but on the bright side, I got an up close and personal lesson in health care, USA style.

And it only took four hours or so!

That said, I've got NO complaints as to the doctor, the nurses, or other staff. They're doing awfully good work in...an awfully screwed up system.

(and, I'd prefer to keep my symptoms private...nothing life threatening, thank heavens, but something that DID need attention...which I eventually got. Still, there are few things more gnawingly depressing than a hospital waiting room. And this one didn't even have the usual dreary collection of magazines that smell like mothballs and are almost as ancient.)
Asshole Joe

New Orleans flooded...and Joe giggled.

OK, to be honest, what he's done and continues to do is endorse "Reverend"--and I use that term loosely--John Hagee, a man who insists that God would happily kill thousands of innocent people and displace hundreds of thousands more because God really, REALLY, REALLY REALLY hates teh gay.

Because, despite the fact that God is all powerful, sometimes he just can't make the distinction--and hey, stuff happens, right?

Geez.

As far as I'm concerned, this alone is enough to put Joe and Hagee off the scale when it comes to pinheadedness and assholery. That sort of stupid won't come out in the wash, and both should be soundly condemned for it.

Unforgivable.
Shorter John McCain

...just think how much you're going to be missing. You won't have Nixon McCain to kick around any more...

Presidentin' Under the Influence

Shrub fails the sobriety test.
Metropolis Lagniappe

For those who appreciate good, historic, dystopian science fiction-y entertainment, NPR reports that approximately 20 minutes of missing footage from Fritz Lang's Metropolis was discovered in a Buenos Aires museum.

I don't normally link to audio reports, but it's worth a listen for those so inclined.

To be truthful, I've always found the ending of the movie to be a bit hasty and stilted. Still, it holds its own, especially considering it's over eighty years old.
Bush and His 'Sit on His Ass' Strategery Towards Levee Maintenence

You would've thought they'd learned their lesson. Nope:

Forecasters said [Hurricane] Dolly was expected to make land late Tuesday or early Wednesday as a hurricane with sustained winds of 74 to 95 mph. The storm combined with levees that have deteriorated in the 41 years since Beulah swept up the Rio Grande pose a major flooding threat to low-lying counties along the border. Beulah spawned more than 100 tornadoes across Texas and dumped 36 inches of rain in some parts of South Texas, killing 58 people and causing more than $1 billion damage.

But hey, the surge worked, and so did the invasion of Iraq, which has only cost a little more than a half trillion dollars to date.
Carrying McCain's Water...Again

A corollary to IOKIYAR, the press corpse is defending John McCain's "right" to verbal gaffes...just like they defended and continue to defend George W. Bush.

But if you're a Democratic candidate and dare to misspeak, watch out. Ask John Kerry.

And even if you don't misspeak, watch out if you're a Democratic candidate. They'll just make shit up. Ask Al Gore.

A Bit of Good News...

Radovan Karadzic was finally arrested and will be put on trial for war crimes. I realize the odds are great, but maybe his trial will serve as a lesson as to the stupidity of racial and ethnic bias.

And, speaking of stupidity, well...Michael Weiner proves once again that even in this day and age it's possible for Homo Erectus to host a live radio show...provided, of course, that the audience itself is brain dead.
Meanwhile...

The GOP's pulling out all the stops to make Minneapolis look good for their upcoming convention.
Bring on the Broomstick Brigade

Patriotism isn't the last refuge of scoundrels...pardoning and commuting prison sentences are.

Damned creeps.

And, um, Ms. Pelosi--the pardon/commutation power is WHY you don't take impeachment off the table. Geez, are you ever a nitwit.
About What You'd Expect From McCain's "Base"

The doughnuts with sprinkles/so far in the tank they'd get the bends if they ever emerged news agency wonders--with a straight face--whether or not they've been giving...Barack Obama too much favorable coverage.

It's not through the looking glass...it's a full scale freak show.
