Still A No Class Son Of A Bitch

Pretty much what you'd expect.

As I noted yesterday, Trump has no class whatsoever, and what the hell, maybe that's part of his appeal to the base. To rephrase something I've touched on previously, the base never really was in the Bush camp, and yeah, they probably did think he was too sophisticated and nuanced...not because he actually was, but because he occasionally alluded to the bigger picture of US global hegemony, to which the average wingnut would probably go...Huh?

It's all about owning the libs to them. They don't give a shit about the consequences...of anything. Pro-life? Laff. Pro-rage, more like.

Have a good weekend.

Posting over the next few weeks will be sporadic, by the way. Taking a short break...thanks to all of you who stop by. I'll be back and might take some time now and then in the interim, depending.

Later.

The Victory Lap

Not exactly cloaked in graciousness, but not at all surprising...Trump's a sore loser, a sore winner, a sore passerby...

What's troubling is how many people seem to like him for it.

That said, we can still toss him out. He won on a technicality in 2016, and can be beaten again...

Mittbot Shows Some Spine

On the one hand, yes, credit where it's due, on the other, Doug Jones and Joe Manchin did the right thing with far more at risk.

As for the Idiot SOTU, the less said the better. To Pelosi's credit, shredding it was appropriate.

Here's My Idea, For What It's Worth

One more little rant here, and I'll even offer a token apology to Mayor Pete and Bernie, but the Iowa Caucus has long since outlived any usefulness, if you could ever give it that much credit.

I believe the idea is that candidates are supposed to engage in "retail" politics, whatever the hell that means.

OK, not to play dumb -- in theory it's supposed to be an old fashioned, door-to-door, meet the voters up close and in person, blah blah blah, the same as in New Hampshire, whatever...I also think the idea is that somehow the playing field would be leveled with a low budget caucus and a small time primary in a small state.

Also in theory it's a way to let candidates gradually pick up speed while offering the politics junkies a small taste to curb their cravings.

Calling bullshit, and I doubt that's even controversial.

Both Iowa and New Hampshire require full court, amped up, high-level and big money efforts and are merely parts of the oversized and overheated load lumbering along the never ending campaign. It's business -- a way to fill hotels and rental car quotas above and beyond any ski-season in New Hampshire...and above and beyond, well, anything you'd do in Iowa in January or February.

Plus, after last night's dud...

Forget it. Move on. Establish a national or limited series of regional primaries. It's not like the alleged retail politics of either makes a damn bit of difference in a 24 hour news cycle.

Who knows? The public, even those of us who follow this stuff, might find a sane alternative to the election slog --and it's a slog, not a cycle -- refreshing enough to re-engage. Just me personally, but even as a political science major in college I find the process at best tiring...

Now back to regularly scheduled programming...oh, will I watch the Doofus State of the Union?...ah, maybe, but likely with the sound off. I can only take so much.

If Nominated, I Would Vote For This Flip Phone...

...before voting for Trump. So...Iowa really doesn't matter, none of it matters. Yes, I've got a preference (Warren, if anyone cares), but Trump Must Go.

Back tomorrow. No, probably won't watch much if any caucus news...

And...one last little screed. Not that I'm unsympathetic, and I imagine it's more than a small economic boost each election cycle (Iowa in January isn't exactly a tourist mecca otherwise) but it's time to cancel culture the endless, tiresome slog that's the nominating process. Maybe do four regional primaries, and space them out if you really must, but the present system has outlived its usefulness...
