So, who knows, maybe it'll work out OK, but taking institutional norms to a gun fight, and then carving out a giant Executive Privilege exemption won't restore the other side's respect for institutional norms. 

Dems have been doing this since Watergate. 

And they've been on the losing side ever since--Iran-Contra, Iraq/Afghanistan/Guantanamo, and now TFG's attempt to subvert the election, which failed, but which is now just another thing TFG did. 

Maybe Merrick should think about stopping the carnage, right here, right now, to paraphrase TFG...
