I remember last year telling a few friends that I expected to be disappointed at times by an Obama administration, because, far from being a wild-eyed fanatic (personally, I'd LIKE to see a bit of 'European-Style Socialism'), his record is actually pretty moderate.
Today we have an example of this disappointment:
...the question [marijuana decriminalization/legalization] was indeed asked at Obama's online town hall, and while I didn't see it, the President apparently snickered, along with his snickering staff, made a crack like "This is a very popular question to you online folks," (did he mime taking a hit off a doobie at this point?) and then categorically said no, that it wouldn't grow the economy, and moved on. Thus insulting the audience about their very popular question and giving it little respect.
More here.
Sigh.
It's unfortunate that the only 'alternative' to Obama's position re: pot, is even more rabid ugliness (and an ugliness that's decidedly NOT 'small government') and while, like Booman Tribune, I realize that this isn't exactly the time to be espousing anything that would send wingnuttia into a feeding frenzy...still, it's disappointing.
But not a deal breaker. Although, like with a lot of things, I'm beginning to realize that even if this country backs off from this sort of police-state lunacy one day, I'll be, well, an old man by then.
Sigh again.
