Highway Robbery

Big Time wants you to fork it over

Oil continues to surge to Bush-merde-touch levels--$143 dollars a barrel today, and I doubt anyone would be surprised if it spiked to $150 before too long...particularly in light of the latest round of ridiculous saber rattling by (presumably) Dick. Cheney., who is no doubt fully aware of the ramifications.

So...Americans are finally being asked to "sacrifice," in this case, their hard-earned dollars, for the greater glory of Dick and his investment portfolio.

Ironically, Louisiana, or at least the State Treasury, benefits from Bush-Cheney mismanagement...but it's small comfort after such huge losses from the hurricanes, the flood, and the drooling stupidity of the administration's reaction.

That said, Gret Stet residents, like everyone else, feel the pinch at the pump. Well, at least most do...

VERY fortunately I'm an exception to the rule, what with by local standards is an astonishingly short work commute (about a mile and a half--at most ten minutes if there's traffic...yeah, I could walk or bike, but...walking in Gret Stet heat and humidity is NOT an option, and bicycling will likewise have to wait for cooler temps and fewer State Troopers ordering me off the streets.) Still, yesterday, it was just over thirty bucks to top-off my roughly half filled tank (at $3.99 a gallon). And while I only have to do that every two or three weeks, I can't imagine the level of frustration a 'burb dweller has...

And that sort of frustration WILL express itself at the polls...provided it isn't trumped by an abject appeal to pure fear. In other words, Charlie Black was merely expressing what must be considered a de facto GOP policy: the HOPE that America suffers another terrorist attack. That's both ironic...and a little scary, considering it's Shrub and Big Time...
