  1. Yes, a very smart young lady indeed. After smoking marijuana one does tend to get the "munchies". Yes, this IS the voice of experience talking. In Vietnam, you could get a pack of ten, already rolled "funny smokes" for $1.00 of MPC (military script, which we called Monopoly money). Heck, even some junior officers, 2nd, 1st Lieutenants, and even an occasional Captain indulged as it were. Even some staff NCO's smoked them. I never did see any heroin though. We did have some speed freaks in the regiment, they were to be avoided when on guard duty. My first time on guard, the bunker I was at was shared with a speed freak. Every rat in the wire got him all excited about "incoming" After the third time the Sgt of the Guard came to our bunker, I asked him if I shot the speed freak, could I say he got shot by the VC. He told me to just make the best of things. Needless to say I got no sleep that night. We were supposed to trade off staying awake, two men per bunker, some rare times three. One would stay awake for 2 to 3 hours, then wake the next man to take over while he got a few hours sleep. Speed freaks are not cool, and this was before crystal meth that seems to be worse.
Oh we had a saying about speed freaks. See Bill, Bill is 20, he looks 45. Bill is a speed freak. They were very paranoid and jumpy, talked nonstop and drank anything liquid. Pot is OK and it is NOT any sort of "gateway drug". Just my opinion, yours may vary.
Bravo to this smart young lady.

  2. Yikes -- yeah, speed is to be avoided, and it seems especially in high stress situations. Glad YOU didn't get shot by the guy -- sounds like he might've aimed at his own shadow, if not a security light reflection bouncing off his dog tags.

Ha -- I actually remember seeing some military bills. My dad had a few. His were smaller than US dollars -- about three quarters size -- and featured, well, a pilot decked out in much the same stuff he wore.

As for munchies, the drug war, etc., damn but I hope Colorado and Washington demonstrate to everyone how stupid it is. I'm 49, and lived in Madison, so you can draw your own conclusions about any habits I might have taken up at one time or another, but I have seen some people get dealt with VERY harshly for...wanting to relax at the end of a day. Sigh. As someone once told me, you can easily see a lot of disgustingly drunk folks at bars and/or around bar time, but rarely do you see anyone disgustingly stoned.

It's just another instance where the "less government" folks aren't really about less government at all, in the end. They're more than happy to throw the book at anyone who doesn't cleave to their "morality," which is, as often as not...disgusting.
