Shooting at a shoplifter suspect is a huge NO-NO. About 20 years ago, when I lived in SoCal, the city of Ontario had a "Citizens Police Academy". It was one night a week for 13 weeks, Sherie and I figured why not. Yes, it was a bit of a PR deal for the local police department, but they did give us all some insight into how the police did their jobs at that time. We were told that the use of deadly force, shooting a gun, was ONLY allowed to save your life or the life of another person, never against crimes against property. Shoplifting IS a crime against property. OK, sure, it is now 2015 and this incident took place in Michigan, but still…….Holy crap! What was that clown thinking? Oh, wait, I bet she wan't thinking at all, except how"heroic" she thought herself to be. Hope the flu has not got you down. Think I just have a cold. Take care and get plenty of rest. Cheers to Tigger too.
Hell, when I was a kid, a friend of mine's dad, who was a uniformed police officer, came to our school for a career day. He said by local rules you couldn't even unholster until seeing a gun pointed at you.
Sure, things have changed in the ensuing 40 odd years, but...I think that's a good rule. Police get the presumption of deadly force when necessary. Let's be sure it's necessary.
A bit better here but not out of the woods Ugh -- aches and pains...
